Brumbies take Australian Super Rugby lead

The Brumbies have boosted their chances of playing Super Rugby finals with a 30-22 win over the Melbourne Rebels.

They’re on 29 points, six clear of the Rebels in the Australian conference.

The Rebels managed to get to within three points in the final 10 minutes before Brumbies winger Nigel Ah Wong sealed the victory with a diving try in the corner.

Brumbies skipper Stephen Moore said the win was massive given the closeness of the Australian contenders.

“It’s a team in our conference who are up around level with us on points so it makes it extra important and we knew that,” Moore said.

“It was such an important game to get points. You’ve really got to keep accumulating them because it starts to stack up and every team is desperate.

“We knew it would be tough and I’m really happy with the effort.”

The Rebels face the Chiefs next week in Hamilton while the Brumbies have the bye.
