Beale cleared, Robinson unlikely

Kurtley Beale has been cleared to play against the Brumbies on Friday, but the NSW Waratahs are likely to be without forward Benn Robinson due to concussion.

Both players copped head knocks in Saturday night’s 30-10 Super Rugby win over the Queensland Reds, but it is Robinson who is in “serious doubt” as he battles ongoing signs of concussion.

Making matters worse for the loosehead prop is the fact he has also suffered a broken nose, meaning he could be facing an extended stint on the sideline.

“He’ll have to go through all the concussion protocols and then if he’s cleared from there we’ll look at his physical well-being,” Waratahs coach Daryl Gibson told Fairfax Media.

“At this stage, I’d say he’s in serious doubt for Friday night.”

With the Waratahs backs flying on Saturday night, Gibson also admitted he would have some “selection headaches” once Bernard Foley returns from a shoulder injury within the next two to three weeks.
