Argentina rugby prop cited for McCaw hit

Argentina lock Tomas Lavanini could miss Saturday’s Rugby Championship Test against the Wallabies on the Gold Coast after being cited for foul play on All Blacks skipper Richie McCaw.

Lavanini was cited for “dangerous charging” by the SANZAR citing commissioner on Sunday, allegedly not using his arms when he powered into McCaw over the ball in the 51st minute of the Test won 28-9 by New Zealand in Napier on Saturday.

Match referee Pascal Gauzere awarded a penalty for the incident, but the citing commissioner deemed the incident met the red card threshold for foul play.

Sanzar duty judicial officer Adam Casselden will conduct the hearing.
