More than 500,000 to watch 2014 Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony

The Commonwealth Games aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, but online bookmaker sportsbet is predicting more than half a million viewers will be tuning in for the Opening Ceremony in Glasgow, with that option priced at $2.20.

In a good sign for host broadcaster Channel Ten, 400,001 to 500,000 is the next favoured ratings grouping at $2.50.

Led by James Magnussen in the 100 freestyle ($1.72), Australia will no doubt dominate in the pool, but there’s money to be made in other sports, like the $13 on offer for the Australian Rugby 7’s team to collect gold – New Zealand are the team to beat at $1.83.

Our Men ($1.30) and Women ($1.57) are both red-hot favourites to take out the hockey, and our netballers are also odds-on at $1.57 to win gold in the netball.

“For anyone who’s keen on our two hockey teams and our netballers, you can get $3.20 for a multi that a lot of people consider a certainty,” said sportsbet.com.au’s Christian Jantzen.

The Games kick off with the Opening Ceremony on Thursday morning our time.
