This week we remain in Hawaii for the Sony Open which is being played at at Waialae Country Club in Honolulu. The tournament was established in 1965 and has always been played at this course.
The course is a Par 70 measuring 7068 yards. The fairways and greens are Bermudagrass. Expect to see some amazing scenery once again this week with plenty of palms and tropical vegetation framing the course.
Compared to last weeks event the fairways are narrower here at Waialae so look for an accurate driver of the ball. There are four Par 3’s on the course which is another stat to look into.
As this is our first full field of the year there is plenty of value for those loking for it. Over the years this tournament has thrown up a few suprise winners such as Russell Henley, Johnson Wagner and Mark Wilson.
The Bookies Top 5 are- $13.00 Jason Day, $17.00 Jimmy Walker, $19.00 Matt Kuchar, $21.00 Chris Kirk and $21.00 Hideki Matsuyama.
There is one golfer who stands out this week so I will only be selecting him and doubling up on the usual bet.
Brendon Todd $34.00 at Sportsbet.com.au
At last weeks Hyundai Tournament of Champions Todd finished a respectable T8th where he was ranked 4th in driving accuracy, 11th in greens in regulation and 7th in puts per GIR. A good pointer that he has hit the ground running in 2015.
Last year on the PGA Tour he played in 28 tournaments and missed only four cuts while making seven Top 10’s. What is interesting is his three highest finishes were all on Par 70 courses. He won the Byron Nelson, T4th Greenbrier Classic and T5th Crown Plaza Invitational.
His stats last year also stand up well for this course with rankings of 6th in strokes gained putting, 11th in Par 3 birdie or better conversion, 42nd in driving accuracy and 7th in scrambling.
At the odds of 33/1 he represents an excellent each way selection and with only the one selection this week it will be a double up on the usual $10 each way bet.
Good Luck and Good Punting.
