Wests Tigers vs Nth Queensland Cowboys 2014 NRL Round 6 preview, tips and teams

The Tigers continued to upset their much more fancied opponents in recent weeks and recorded a comprehensive 34 – 18 win over the Sea Eagles last week. It took the Tigers season record to 3 – 2 with the victories being against competition leaders Gold Coast, and premiership favourites South Sydney and Manly, by margins of 30, 9 and 16 respectively.

The Tigers relished the wet conditions last week and dominated the game from the opening whistle, with Robbie Farah opening the scoring in the 7th minute.

The Tigers, as they have done so in each of their games, played with great enthusiasm last week, which their opponents have had trouble matching.

An underrated but impressive young forward pack have given young halfback sensation Luke Brooks, plenty of opportunity for him to display his immense talent and help the Tigers record 143 points thus far this season, 24 points more than the second best attack.

Locked on the ladder with seven other teams, the Tigers will want to ensure they keep pace and come up against the Cowboys side this week that haven’t beaten the Tigers away from Townsville, since 2004.

The Cowboys recorded a much needed win last Monday night, only their second of the season, when they easily accounted for a poor Newcastle Knights 28 – 2.

It was a game the Cowboys needed as they seemed to be a length or two off the pace in previous matches and the win will serve their confidence well.

Not surprisingly for two teams that like to chance their arm in attack, only one game between the two sides in the past thirteen encounters, has resulted in a total match score of 40 points – and on that occasion it was 39.

The Cowboys have won two of the last three but as mentioned above, struggle to get the better of the Tigers when in NSW.

This has the makings of a real great clash. Two good forward packs up against equally strong backlines, with both sides coming of a good win.

Unfortunately for the Tigers, Fullback James Tedesco will miss this match with his spot taken by debutante Kurtis Rowe who is sure to be thoroughly tested by Thurston’s kicking game.

The Cowboys remain unchanged.

Hard not to be impressed with the Tigers and their record against the Cowboys in Sydney is strong, it could pay to stick with them again.
