Wests Tigers to axe Potter: report

Wests Tigers are reportedly set to sack coach Mick Potter after Sunday’s NRL game against St George Illawarra.

News Corp reports that Potter will be axed regardless of the result against the Dragons after losing support at board level.

The former Canterbury, St George and Western Reds fullback’s job is tipped to go to one of his assistant coaches, David Kidwell or Todd Payten.

It’s uncertain whether Potter’s sacking would be immediate or at season’s end.

Tigers chief executive Grant Mayer responded to the story on his Twitter account.

“Hard to read some of this stuff today. Can assure you all that the club will communicate when there is something to say. Gameday is focus,” Mayer said.

Last weekend, Potter’s enigmatic side produced an outstanding performance to dispatch top-four side Canterbury 46-18.

The Tigers are 10th on the NRL ladder, but sit just six points off leaders Manly, and a win over the Dragons would go a long way to sparking a run to the finals.
