Vidosic joins Wanderers in A-League

Fringe Socceroo Dario Vidosic has signed a two-year deal with A-League outfit Western Sydney Wanderers, beginning this upcoming season.

The attacking midfielder joins the Wanderers as the club’s Australian marquee player and is expected to team with Italian striker Federico Piovacarri and former Brisbane Roar teammate Mitch Nicholls in a new-look attacking third.

The ex-Adelaide midfielder returns to Australia after three years with FC Sion in the Swiss league, where he scored just eight goals in 46 matches.

Vidosic also has 23 caps for the Socceroos but fell out of the national frame after being a squad member in last year’s World Cup in Brazil.

It is the 28-year-old’s third spell in the national competition, having previously appeared with Brisbane in 2006-07, and Adelaide in 2011-13.

Wanderers CEO John Tsatsimas said he was excited to recruit a player of Vidosic’s calibre as the club continued an overhaul of its playing roster.

“We have had a very busy off-season ensuring we recruit a playing group that have the drive and ability to take our club to the next stage of its evolution,” he said.

“Dario has a fantastic technical ability and we welcome him to the club and look forward to making him feel at home within the team and importantly within our club culture.”

The Wanderers continue their pre-season with a hit-out against NSW Premier League side APIA Leichhardt at Leichhardt Oval on Tuesday night ahead of their FFA Cup quarter-final against Perth on September 29.
