Uncertainty surrounds Foran’s Eels debut

Confusion surrounds Kieran Foran’s Parramatta debut as the star halfback battles to overcome a hamstring injury.

A day after Foran declared the hamstring fixed for the 2016 NRL season, reports emerged on Tuesday morning that the marquee recruit was still under an injury cloud for Thursday night’s season-opener against Brisbane.

It was suggested the Kiwi international may need until an hour before kick off to prove his fitness for the Pirtek Stadium fixture.

However, when quizzed about the injury on Monday, Foran declared the hamstring fine for not only the first round, but the entire season.

“It’s going really well,” he said.

“It’s getting stronger and stronger by the day and I’m optimistic that I won’t have any problems with it this year.”

Ironically, Foran is still battling the same hamstring injury he first damaged in last year’s season-opener at the same ground.

On that occasion Foran was playing for Manly against the Eels.

He went on to miss five matches for the Sea Eagles, while often struggling to play through the injury.

Parramatta will announce their side for the match on Tuesday afternoon.
