Tuqiri facing one-match ban

South Sydney winger Lote Tuqiri is facing a week on the sidelines for a crusher tackle on Parramatta’s Jarryd Hayne.

Tuqiri will miss the Rabbitohs’ round-20 match with Canberra next Monday night if he takes the early guilty plea to the grade-two dangerous contact charge announced by the NRL match review committee.

He will miss a fortnight if he fights the charge and is unsuccessful.

The 34-year-old was charged for an incident in the 22nd minute of the Rabbitohs’ win over the Eels on Friday.

The Eels’ Joseph Paulo was reported for a careless high tackle on George Burgess in the same game but faces no further sanction.

The Bulldogs will be breathing a sigh of relief after halves Trent Hodkinson and Josh Jackson and winger Corey Thompson all escaped suspension after being put on report in their loss to Wests Tigers on Sunday.

Hodkinson and Thompson came under the scrutiny of the judiciary for separate dangerous throws while Jackson was cited for tripping. All three will be free to play with an early guilty plea.

Tigers five-eighth Blake Austin was reported for a careless high tackle on Drury Low in the same game but will be available for selection this weekend.

The Panthers’ Sika Manu and the Warriors’ Manu Vatuvei were both charged with careless high tackles but will be free to play with an early guilty plea.
