Tupou agrees to Wakefield switch

Former NSW, Australia and Sydney Roosters forward Anthony Tupou has agreed a two-year deal to join Brian Smith’s Super League side Wakefield.

The 31-year-old has spent the last six years with Cronulla but has moved to the UK after his contract expired at the end of the last season.

“Anthony Tupou has chosen to join the Wildcats in what must be one of the club’s biggest moments for foreign imports,” Smith said.

“Toops has a tremendous representative record with Australia and NSW Blues as well as an NRL record with the Roosters and Sharks.

“His leadership and great attacking talents are sure to light up the 2016 Super League and Wakefield.”

Tupou said: “The decision to leave home wasn’t easy for me but the opportunity to be a part of a club that is changing and building is really exciting to me.

“Playing in Super League is something I always knew I would do one day if I had the chance. The style of league here is refreshing and the unpredictability is what I love the most about it.”
