Titans stars not named for round two

Gold Coast coach Neil Henry says it’s unlikely any of the five players embroiled in the NRL club’s cocaine scandal will play in Saturday’s clash against Penrith.

Discussions are ongoing about re-instating Greg Bird, Dave Taylor, Beau Falloon, Kalifa Faifai Loa and Jamie Dowling.

All five have had their initial court appearance on drug charges.

Henry was present when lawyers and representatives from the rugby league player’s association met with the Titans’ board on Monday.

But the coach said no final decision had been made.

“There’s no point naming players if we don’t know that they’re available,” Henry said.

“That issue still hasn’t been resolved. It’s unlikely to be resolved in the next day or two.

“If and when they become available, I’ll have to make some decisions about changes in the team but at the moment they’re not looking like they’ll be available for round two.”

The Titans take on the Panthers in Bathurst and will depart from the Gold Coast on Thursday to begin their trip to the NSW town.

Henry has made just one change to the team that lost by one point to Wests Tigers last weekend, with back-rower Lachlan Burr starting and Matt Robinson drops to the bench.

Henry said he was happy with the performance against the Tigers despite the result.

“The guys that went out there and played really put their hand up and it was a bit unfortunate not get away with the win there,” he said.

“We need to take that attitude and effort into every game.

“We expect no less when we get down to Carrington Park in Bathurst for the game on the weekend.”

Titans: Will Zillman, Kevin Gordon, James Roberts, Josh Hoffman, David Mead, Aidan Sezer, Daniel Mortimer, Luke Douglas, Kierran Moseley, Eddy Pettybourne, Ryan James, Lachlan Burr, Nate Myles (capt). Interchange: Agnatius Paasi, Mark Ioane, Matt Robinson, Matt Srama, Ryan Simpkins.
