Gold Coast captain Nate Myles has laughed off suggestions he’s planning to quit the embattled NRL club to join Melbourne.

The off-contract State of Origin star was linked to the Storm in a media report earlier this week, claiming a desire to be closer to his wife Tessa James’ Melbourne-based family was behind the proposed move.

James has only recently finished chemotherapy after she was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma last year.

When asked about the report on Friday, Myles joked that it’s just one of many places he’s supposedly off to.

“I heard I was going to the south of France too,” he said.

“I’m interested to see where they (rumours) come from.”

The Titans will be desperate to retain the services of Myles despite the fact he’ll be turning 30 this year.

Since arriving on the Gold Coast in 2012, Myles has become the team’s on-field leader and one of the club’s biggest assets during a turbulent time off the park.

Coach Neil Henry has already spoken of his desire for Myles to remain at the Titans for the remainder of his career although talks have yet to get underway between the club and the player.

Myles’ primary concern is reversing the club’s poor start to the campaign this Saturday against Cronulla.

The Titans head to Remondis Stadium 0-3 for just the second time in their short history.

The last time the Titans began a season this poorly they went on to finish with the wooden spoon in 2011.

Myles says improving defence will be the key to securing a win against the Sharks after letting in some soft tries against Newcastle in last weekend’s 20-18 loss to the Knights.

“A couple of their tries were pretty simple,” Myles said.

“We need to make a team work a lot harder for the results they’re after.”
