Taumalolo worth the cash, Glenn says

Whoever ends up snaring in-demand North Queensland dynamo Jason Taumalolo will be getting value for money, no matter what he costs, New Zealand teammate Alex Glenn says.

Glenn, who has played international football alongside the Cowboys wrecking ball for the Kiwis, says the 21-year-old already has all the qualities to make him one of the game’s most feared ball-runners.

Taumalolo, who is off contract at the end of the season, is currently being courted by half a dozen NRL clubs – with his hometown outfit the Warriors the most aggressive in pursuit.

The Warriors have reportedly made the man dubbed the next Sonny Bill Williams an offer worth $1 million a season, which would make him the most expensive forward in the NRL.

But whatever it costs to steal the second-rower away, or for the Cowboys to retain him, the price will be repaid in no time, according to Glenn.

“A hundred per cent he wouldn’t let anyone down, whatever price they pay for him,” Glenn told AAP as he prepared for Brisbane’s World Club Challenge clash against Wigan on Sunday morning (AEDT).

“He’s a young player, but he’s full of ability.

“It’s hard for me to say what his price is worth but he’s definitely a great player.”

Since making his NRL debut in 2010, Taumalolo has carved out a reputation as one of the game’s most lethal runners of the ball, and in 2014 enjoyed a career-best year while becoming the dynamic member of a star-studded Cowboys pack.

Glenn, who at 102kg is roughly 10kg lighter than Taumalolo, despite the pair playing the same position in the second-row, says it is the barrel-chested frame and tree-trunk legs that make him such a threat when running the ball.

“He’s not overly tall, but he’s really stocky and powerful,” Glenn added.

“They’re always the hardest players to tackle, with the low centre of gravity.

“He’s very dominant, he’s got a big engine and he can play for long minutes.”
