Sydney Roosters vs Melbourne Storm 2014 NRL Round 25 preview, tips and teams

The Roosters registered their fourth win in a row with a comprehensive 46 – 12 point win over the Warriors last week at Mt. Smart Stadium.

Centre Michael Jennings bagged himself another double, his third from the past four games, taking his tally to seven tries from the past four matches whilst Anthony Minichiello crossed for one try, making it the last five consecutive games he has crossed for at least one four-pointer.

The eight try victory has seen the Roosters knock up 150 points in their last four matches, all games against teams outside of the eight, and should have them primed for their last two matches against Storm and Manly.

Whilst this is a tough fortnight, it also presents the Roosters with the perfect opportunity to head into the final series with a full head of steam.

The Roosters have named a full strength side for this clash, with Sonny-Bill Williams who returned to action last week via the bench, in the starting line-up this week.

STORM
The Storm handed the Panthers only their third defeat at home this year when recording a 24 – 10 victory at Sportingbet Stadium on Monday night.

As expected, the Storm had to work hard for the win and it was only two tries in quick succession halfway through the second half that gave the Storm the buffer they needed to see the game out.

It was the Storm’s fifth win from the past six matches, their first during that time against a top eight side, and has them now placed fifth on the ladder, one win behind the Panthers and their opponents this week, the Roosters.

With Penrith up against Manly at Brookvale, a win here could see the Storm enter the top four heading into the final round.

The Storm, like the Roosters, have been afforded a good run over the past month in terms of the draw and it’s given them the opportunity to play themselves into some strong form after a patchy mid-season that saw them lose 6 from 10.

Jesse Bromwitch returns to the team with Jordan McLean dropping back to an extended bench that includes Junior Moors, Justin O’Neil and Dayne Weston.

HEAD TO HEAD
The Roosters easily accounted for a depleted Storm outfit earlier in the year 32 – 12, during a trying Origin period for the Storm, to record only their third win over the Melbourne club from eight matches played since 2009.

It was the fourth match in succession that at least 44 match points have been scored and with both sides having had plenty of chances to fine-tune their attack in recent weeks, the line for this match (38.00) looks well within reach.

It’s hard to knock back black figure odds about Storm but, given they’re back up in Sydney (this will be their fifth game on the road in the past six weeks) and on the quick back-up from Monday night, it throws what should be a close game in the favour of the Roosters.
