Sutton, Cummins to referee Origin II

Referees Gerard Sutton and Ben Cummins have been retained for State of Origin II.

In announcing the pair’s retention on Tuesday, after their officiating role in Origin I last month, NRL referees boss Tony Archer said they were the “form referees so far this season”.

“I thought they refereed the first game extremely well and I’m confident they will do the job again in Game II,” Mr Archer said.

However NSW coach Laurie Daley has expressed his displeasure over Sutton and Cummins’ performances in the interstate series opener, believing Queensland niggling tactics overstepped the mark.

Daley will meet with Archer in the lead-up to Origin II in Melbourne on Wednesday week in a bid to clarify refereeing interpretations.

Bernard Sutton and Luke Patten have been appointed as the video referees for Game II, with Nick Beashel and Brett Suttor to act as touch judges.

Matt Cecchin is the back-up referee.
