Sutton and Cummins to referee Origin I

Gerard Sutton and Ben Cummins have been appointed as the referees for State of Origin I.

The duo refereed all three Origin fixtures in 2015 and will continue their officiating partnership at game one at Sydney’s ANZ Stadium on June 1.

Referees boss Tony Archer said Sutton and Cummins have been the in-form whistleblowers over the first 11 rounds of the NRL premiership.

“They have been the two leading referees in the NRL competition and deserve their selections,” Archer said.

“This will be Ben’s 12th Origin appearance and Gerard’s fifth. They handled last year’s series really well and will be supported by two in-form and experienced touch judges. I am confident all officials will perform well next Wednesday night.”

Nick Beashel and Jeff Younis are the touch judges for the Origin series opener.

Bernard Sutton, Luke Patten and Ashley Klein will man the bunker for its Origin debut.
