Storm’s Ben Roberts joins UK Super League

A – NRL journeyman Ben Roberts will leave Melbourne Storm at the end of the season to join the UK Super League.

Roberts, 28, revealed on Monday he had signed a two-year deal with Castleford.

The playmaker started his NRL career in 2006 and has played 138 games while representing Canterbury, Parramatta and the Storm.

“I only signed at the Storm for one year, and we were not quite sure what I was going to do after this year, in terms of hanging around or possibly going overseas,” said Roberts, who played for Samoa in last year’s World Cup and has also represented New Zealand.

“I suggested to my manager that we should have a fish out and about, just to see what was out there.

“It just so happened that Castleford came in the picture.

“I heard nothing but good things about the club, and they came from people who had played there in the past.”

Castleford coach Daryl Powell revealed his club had tried to sign Roberts when he left the Eels in 2013.

“Ben has years of NRL experience, but I really believe his best form is in front of him,” Powell said.

“I am confident our club will see those years.”
