Souths’ Sutton, Burgess in US incident

Axed South Sydney captain John Sutton and ex-Rabbitoh Luke Burgess were involved in an incident in Arizona that led to charges, the NRL club has revealed.

On Sunday, three months after it occurred, premiers Souths put out a statement saying there was an incident of “disorderly behaviour” involving the pair during the club’s pre-season training camp in the US.

AAP understands the two were involved in a bar fight in Arizona.

While charges were initially laid, they were withdrawn.

The Rabbitohs said in a statement they had informed the NRL integrity unit of the incident immediately.

The club said the players were internally disciplined and an NRL spokesperson said the governing body would not be taking any further action.

Sutton was axed as Souths captain in favour of Greg Inglis last month, with no specific explanation given as to why he lost the job.

Forward Burgess, whose brothers Tom and George are still with the club, was last month granted a release to join Manly.
