Souths hooker Luke cops one-week NRL ban

South Sydney hooker Issac Luke has copped a one-game NRL suspension after pleading guilty to a dangerous throw on Penrith’s Tyrone Peachey.

Luke will miss his side’s clash with St George Illawarra next weekend, with his side having the bye this round.

He was charged with a grade one dangerous throw by the NRL match committee for a tackle in the 46th minute of Penrith’s 20-6 upset win over South Sydney on Friday.

His sidelining will open up the door for Cameron McInnes to push his claim to wear the Rabbitohs No.9 jersey next year when Luke departs to join the Warriors.

Cronulla forward Chris Heighington has elected to fight his dangerous throw charge at the judiciary.

He was charged for a tackle on Manly’s Josh Starling in his side’s 28-16 loss on Sunday.

He was facing a two-week suspension even with an early guilty plea, due to 78 carry-over points, and will plead his case on Thursday night.
