Smith signs for one more year at Knights

Newcastle forward Jeremy Smith has signed on for one more year in a deal that will see the veteran end his long NRL career at the Knights next season.

The former Kiwi international started with Melbourne in 2004 and has played 186 NRL games with the Storm, St George-Illawarra, Cronulla and Newcastle.

Smith joined the Knights in 2013 and has played 47 games for the club.

The 35-year-old said he had no hesitations about playing for another season.

“Age is only a number and I am confident about playing next season,” Smith said prior to Saturday’s game against Canberra at Hunter Stadium.

“To be able to play for the Knights and to finish my career here is something I hold close to my heart.”
