Russell nets new Super League Wolves deal

Scotland full-back Matthew Russell has been given a new four-year contract by Warrington, just six matches into his career.

The 20-year-old former Wigan player joined the Wolves on a two-year deal last October after cutting short his stay with Australian club Gold Coast Titans.

He missed the opening three matches of the season after picking up an ankle injury on Warrington’s training camp in Sydney, but has played in the last six matches and impressed club owner Simon Moran enough to earn a fresh deal to take him through to November 2017.

“I think Matty has shown in the short time that he has been here what he is capable of and there is a lot more to come,” Wolves coach Tony Smith said.

“He’s still learning aspects of the game and has certainly been very valuable to the team with his performances so far.”
