Roosters wary of winless Sharks

En-route to the NRL wooden spoon late last season Cronulla pulled off their greatest ever comeback to down top four fancies Sydney Roosters.

With the situation similar ahead of the clubs’ round five clash at Allianz Stadium on Sunday, the Roosters are wary of history repeating.

In July the Sharks fought their way back from 24-0 down to beat the reigning premiers 30-28 in the upset of the season.

Cronulla enter this year’s match on the back of a horror 0-4 start, with the second placed Roosters again emerging as title contenders with a 3-1 beginning to 2015.

But international prop Sam Moa says the Tricolours are determined to show they have learned their lesson from their low point of 2014.

“That game really hurt us, not the fact that we lost but the way that we lost that game,” Moa said on Monday.

“We are aware of what we need to do and to match them energy wise and intensity wise.

“The Sharks have posed a bit of a threat to us the last couple of years, they have certainly had some really good games against us.

Star centre Blake Ferguson was ruled out for four months on Monday due to ankle ligament damage suffered in Sunday’s big win over the Raiders.

Jake Friend is still about a fortnight away from a return from a shoulder injury according to the club.

Utility Mitch Aubusson has been crucial in Friend’s absence and said he knows he needs to keep up his form to keep the Sharks at bay.

“Obviously they surprised us last year with a really good game,” he said.

“We are not going to let that happen again. We are looking forward to playing them and putting on a strong performance.”
