Sydney Roosters enforcer Dylan Napa says working under Trent Robinson at this stage of his career is more important than money, as the young forward prepares to turn his back on big bucks to stay with the Tricolours.

The 22-year-old Queenslander is one of several top-line Roosters players off-contract at the end of the season and St George Illawarra view him as the ideal player to bolster their under-sized forward pack.

The Dragons also have money to spend, with Brett Morris moving on to Canterbury and Trent Merrin joining Penrith at the end of the season.

However, Napa is desperate to remain at the club he joined as a teenager when he moved from Brisbane and continue working with Robinson and his coaching staff.

“I am just sorting it out at the moment but I am pretty keen to stay here at the Roosters,” Napa said.

“I am so comfortable here, I have real trust in the coach, the players.

“I wasn’t really keen to move on – I just wanted to weigh up every option.

“But you trust your coach so much you wouldn’t want to leave. I’ve had Jason Taylor in the 20s and just learned so much here, it’s been awesome.”

Napa has his most productive season of his career last year and was involved, mostly off the bench, in 24 matches.

With Sonny Bill Williams and Frank Paul Nuuausala moving on at the end of last year it will allow Napa to play a more significant role this season.

“I definitely can step up my game. This is my third year in first grade and I can’t just glide through any more,” he said.

“I probably need to lead a bit more from the front.”
