Richardson to leave Souths to join NRL

Shane Richardson will leave as CEO of South Sydney to take up a new position as the NRL’s head of game and strategy development.

John Lee, the former CEO of Casino and Resorts Australasia, will take over from Richardson from February 9.

Richardson’s new role with the NRL begins on March 2.

“It’s a new challenge and it will excite me,” said Richardson.

“I think I can make a difference but only time will tell.

“Dave Smith and I have had some good conversations and I look forward to it.

“It was a difficult decision, but I am leaving the club in good hands.”

Lee, who has held a boardroom role with North Queensland, said he was taking over from a hugely important figure in the club’s long history.

“These are literally size 15 shoes I am filling. They have gone from the spoon to the moon in his time here.

“I am very privileged and honoured to be given this opportunity.”
