Raiders’ Wighton gets scans on face injury

Canberra fullback Jack Wighton is at risk of another stint on the sidelines after suffering a facial injury during Sunday night’s NRL loss to the Warriors.

The 22-year-old has undergone scans on the injury, which he picked up just minutes into the match after clashing heads with teammate Jeremy Hawkins while fielding a kick.

Wighton played on through the pain for the full 80 minutes, but was noticeably less involved for the remainder of the clash.

The club’s most dangerous attacking weapon went in for scans on Monday, and the Raiders are hoping to hear positive news from specialists on Tuesday afternoon.

Wighton is one of the club’s most exciting young players, but has had a horror run of injuries since 2012 including a broken leg, thumb and toe.

If ruled out of Saturday’s clash against St George Illawarra, Melbourne recruit Sisa Waqa, Jordan Rapana or Edrick Lee are the most likely options to cover at fullback.
