Raiders’ Bateman takes one-week NRL ban

Canberra forward Luke Bateman will miss Monday’s clash against North Queensland after taking the early guilty plea for his crusher tackle last week.

Bateman was only hit with a grade one dangerous contact charge from their win over Newcastle, however loading meant he had to successfully fight his charge at the NRL judiciary to get off.

The 21-year-old instead took the discounted early plea and is sidelined for a week.

Raiders teammate Kurt Baptiste (dangerous throw) and Wests Tigers forward Josh Ailoai (dangerous throw) also took early guilty pleas but escaped suspension for their grade one charges.

Brisbane forward Josh McGuire was the first to enter a guilty plea on Monday, freeing him to play for Queensland in State of Origin III on Wednesday week.

Manly winger Brayden Wiliame has until midday on Wednesday to decide whether to fight a grade one shoulder charge stemming from Monday’s NRL win over St George Illawarra.
