Parker tipped to be Broncos captain

Corey Parker is giving little away on whether he will be NRL club Brisbane’s next captain.

Coach Wayne Bennett announced in January he knew who would replace retired great Justin Hodges as the new skipper, but would not reveal the appointment until before the NRL season kick-off.

According to newspaper reports Parker will be anointed to replace Hodges, but the veteran back-rower has taken to Twitter to suggest he is still in the dark.

“It’s always interesting to read stories that are full of speculation. I’m really intrigued to know exactly where the information comes from!” he tweeted.

Parker shared the captaincy reins with Hodges in 2014 under former Brisbane coach Anthony Griffin.

However, Hodges was installed as sole skipper when Bennett returned to Brisbane in 2015.

The 33-year-old Parker has played 320 NRL games for Brisbane, behind Broncos great Darren Lockyer’s record of 355.

Parker is considered a leading contender to take over from Hodges this year along with another former skipper Sam Thaiday, Ben Hunt, Darius Boyd and Andrew McCullough.

Brisbane – last year’s NRL runners-up – kick off their season away to Parramatta on March 3.
