The win was built off the back of a flying start from the Cowboys who led 14 – 0 inside of the first 20 minutes of the game.

Whilst their attack was in full swing, it would’ve also pleased Cowboys staff and supporters to see their defence just as effective, particular late in the first half as they held a persistent Bronco attack at bay.

The Broncos closed the gap to 14- 10 in the second half but two tries inside of the last ten minutes secured a deserved victory for the home-side.

It was the fourth win from five matches at home for the Cowboys this year, where they average a very good 28 points per game. It also continues the good momentum that the Cowboys have been generating over the past month.

Another team starting to hit their straps are the Sydney Roosters.

Last year’s Premier’s only won two of their first six matches but are starting to turn their season around and made it three wins on the trot with a comfortable 30 – 6 win over the West Tigers last weekend.

The Roosters scored first via winger Daniel Topou in the tenth and always looked like the team most likely to score but some poor options and defensive penalties deep in the opponents territory, prevented them from adding to their score until 35th minute when Michael Jennings scored.

A second try to Topou right on the stroke of half-time, gave the Roosters a 14 – 0 half-time lead, a margin that was never challenged in the second stanza.

It was a solid performance by the Roosters last week but one still short of their best. With better execution and some patience in attack, their half-time lead could’ve been far greater.

They’ll have to improve both of these components of their game for this week’s clash as the Cowboys will not be as forgiving as some of the Roosters recent opponents.

The Cowboys have a good record over the Roosters, having won five of the seven matches since 2009 however, of the past three games that have been played in Townsville, the Roosters have been successful twice 12 – 8 and 18 – 8.

Expecting this clash to produce a similar result with not much between the two teams on current form.
