NSW re-sign Daley as State of Origin coach

Laurie Daley has agreed to stay on as NSW State Origin coach until the end of 2017.

New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) on Monday said Daley had signed a two-year contract extension as he aims to build on this year’s drought-breaking series win.

“This process has just started,” Daley said in a statement.

“It was an amazing year for everyone in NSW, and we look forward to building on what we achieved in this year’s series.

“It’s a special job and I am one of the lucky ones to be given the opportunity by the board of the NSWRL.”

Chairman Dr George Peponis said NSWRL was delighted to secure the services of Daley, who began his tenure ahead of the 2013 series.

“The board is absolutely thrilled with the job that Laurie has done since he took on the role and we are certainly excited about the future knowing that he will be coaching the squad until at least the 2017 series,” Dr Peponis said.

“He deserves to continue what he has started. The job isn’t finished for us as an organisation by any stretch of the imagination.

“We obviously want to be as successful as possible and we believe Laurie is the right man to continue to take us in that direction.”
