NSW player ratings for Origin II

PLAYER RATINGS FOR THE BLUES FOR STATE OF ORIGIN II:

1. MATT MOYLAN – Struggled to get involved in the first half, and tried hard to spark an upset win late. 6

2. BLAKE FERGUSON – Dropped a kick late that led to Corey Oates’ match-winning try. His spot for game three is likely to come under scrutiny after a lacklustre all-round effort. 5

3. MICHAEL JENNINGS – Very loose pass for Gagai’s opening try and shocking defence paved the way for Gagai’s second. Fluffed two late tryscoring opportunities. But did make metres in attack. 4

14. DYLAN WALKER – Conceded four, yes, four penalties early. Perhaps not all of them were warranted, but they gave Queensland crucial momentum. Inglis terrorised him throughout. 3

5. JOSH MANSOUR – Fantastic running the ball out of yardage. But had limited chances down the other end. 6.5

6. JAMES MALONEY – Tried hard, perhaps too hard and did make some errors. But his 80m second half try brought the Blues back into it. One of NSW’s best. 7

7. ADAM REYNOLDS – Quiet again before a great offload for Frizell’s try. A shoulder injury forced him off late. 6.5

8. AARON WOODS – Made some fantastic charges early but lacked support. 6.

9. ROBBIE FARAH – Made a game-high 48 tackles. But it wasn’t enough was it? Again. 6

10. JAMES TAMOU – Struggled to make yards for much of the night. 4.5

15. TYSON FRIZELL – Fantastic chase in vain for Gagai’s try. Tough tackling, hard running. Will be part of the Blues side for years to come. NSW best in a fantastic debut. 8.5

12. JOSH JACKSON – Loves the tough stuff. Ruined a mistake free game with a loose late pass but the game was lost by then. 7

13. PAUL GALLEN (c) – Just doesn’t have the impact he once did. Has he played his final Origin game? 5

INTERCHANGE:

11. GREG BIRD – Again moved back to the bench from the starting side and didn’t make a huge impact. 5

16. DAVID KLEMMER – Wasn’t the force he has been in previous games. 5.5

17. ANDREW FIFITA – Rocks and diamonds. As always. 5

18. JACK BIRD – Wasn’t brought on until the second half, but looked threatening in attack and tried to take it to the Maroons. 6
