NRL sacks commercial manager

The NRL has sacked its commercial manager Paul Kind.

The long-serving staffer had been with the NRL since 2002, various media outlets reporting he was let go on Wednesday because of a code of conduct issue.

It has been a tumultuous time for the sport’s peak body which has let go a number of other staffers.

The peak body appointed well-respected South Sydney boss Shane Richardson as head of game strategy and development a fortnight ago, the newly created role due to start next month.

That move suggested Todd Greenberg’s position as head of football could come under scrutiny.

Last year the NRL suffered a major ratings hit on television with audiences down by 3.6 million across Australia and New Zealand during the regular season.

It failed to reach its crowd target of 16,500 per match for the regular season, recording an average of 15,900 people at each fixture.
