Myles has no issue with Scott’s shots

Gold Coast captain Nate Myles happily concedes Newcastle enforcer Beau Scott walks the fine line between physicality and illegality in the NRL, but he feels that’s exactly why the Knights’ forward is a good player.

Scott will be free to line up for the Knights when they face the Titans at Robina on Sunday after taking the early guilty plea on a grade one dangerous contact charge from a fiery clash with North Queensland last weekend.

The NSW State of Origin star was slapped with the charge after being placed on report for hitting Cowboys’ playmaker Johnathan Thurston without the ball before tipping the five-eighth on his head in a tackle.

Scott and forward partner Jeremy Smith’s apparent targeting of Thurston left the Cowboys fuming after the Knights’ win in Townsville.

But Myles says he has no issue with how the Knights approach the game and has warned his teammates to prepare for a physical onslaught on Sunday.

“It was pretty visible they wanted to be physical with a key player and no doubt they’ll be doing the same thing against us mate,” he said.

“It’s not against the rulebook to target some people … they’re a physical side and they’ve been physical with us the past couple of years.

“That’s the reason why Beau Scott’s so good. He’s a very physical player. They’ve (NRL) already ruled on that and they didn’t think he was too far out of line.

“He’s a great player mate and our boys have to be ready for the physicality that they bring.”

Myles, famously punched on the chin by NSW skipper Paul Gallen during an Origin clash in 2013, said rules which mean any punches being thrown automatically result in a sin-bin had led to frustrations for players on the field.

He said there should be some leeway given to accept that players are going to lash out if given treatment by an opponent.

“I was probably the best example of mouthing off and not putting your chin away,” Myles said.

“If you’re willing to mouth off, or you’re willing to get dirty, you’ve just got to be prepared for what comes with it.”
