Morris twins to bring out their NRL best

If playing against one Morris is tough, the twins reckon they can pose an even greater danger next NRL season now they’ve been reunited.

Fronting the media together on Tuesday, brothers Josh and Brett were coy on what position Brett will play in coach Des Hasler’s Canterbury backline following his high-profile switch from St George Illawarra.

While he’s made his name as a winger, it’s widely believed Hasler will look to employ him as a strike fullback the club’s been on the lookout for since Ben Barba left at the end of 2013.

But, wing or fullback, Brett is set to line up close to centre Josh, and they say that will bring out the best in both of them.

The evidence was there in the opening State of Origin game earlier this year, when the brothers inspired each other to heroic performances on the right flank despite carrying painful injuries in NSW’s victory at Suncorp Stadium.

“We’ve played a bit of rep footy together and really enjoy it,” Brett said.

“We know how much that brings it out in us on the field.”

Josh agreed: “We were always very competitive with one another and I’m sure that’s only going to help our games next year.”

Versatile Kiwi Sam Perrett played fullback capably as the Bulldogs made it to the grand final this year but he could easily switch to wing if Brett Morris is preferred as custodian.

“We haven’t really spoken about (where I play),” Brett said.

“Obviously I’m coming off a shoulder injury and had that fixed up. Personally, it is just about getting the body right and having the best pre-season I can and when the footy comes up I’ll be happy to play wherever.”

For Josh, the position is also not an issue.

“It doesn’t matter where he plays, I just can’t wait to get out there and play alongside him,” Josh said.

“Brett has played fullback before and he’s played on the wing and even in his younger days played centre.

“I’m sure Des has plans for him and we’ll find them out round one.”

Deciding on Brett’s position is not the only challenge Canterbury players and staff are facing now the near-identical twins have been reunited.

“I think there’ll be a few tricks on everyone. I got a text from our sports scientist today and she thought Brett was in training,” Josh said.

“So they are still having a hard time trying to figure out who’s who.”
