Melbourne Storm vs Sydney Roosters 2014 NRL Round 13 preview, tips and teams

The Melbourne Storm had put to very good wins together in rounds 9 and 10, defeating premiership contenders Manly and South Sydney.

It broke a string of poor results for the Storm and the wins, which appeared to have the Melbourne club back on track, were orchestrated by in-form halfback Cooper Cronk.

Unfortunately for Storm supporters, Cronk broke his arm in the first State Of Origin and will be missing for most of the remainder of this season.

His absence, along with that of Billy Slater who also suffered in injury in Origin, was clearly evident in their loss against the Cowboys in round 12, 22 – 0.

Both players will be missing again from this week’s clash with Coach Bellamy, who experimented with Cameron Smith at halfback against the Cowboys, including Tohu Ross at five-eight with Ben Roberts at halfback.

Smith returns to the hooker role.

ROOSTERS

The Roosters haven’t been affected as heavily by Origin as first thought and that’s allowed the side to run themselves into some form.

Whilst still not at their clinical standard they were last year, they’ve been good enough to win five of their last six, all by 13+ margins, and register more than 24 points in all bar one of those outings.

It took a while last week, but the Roosters got the better of the Raiders 26 – 12 with Origin winger Daniel Tupou scoring a hatrick and taking his season tally to eight, one in front of full back Anthony Minichello.

The Roosters stick with the same side as that against the Raiders and it looks one that possess a lot more points than that of Melbourne.

HEAD TO HEAD

Since 2008, the Roosters have loss six of their past matches against the Storm. However, not many of those defeats would have been against a Melbourne side minus Cronk and Slater.

Cronk was and is the driving force behind the Storm and without him, Melbourne are simply not as effective.

The Roosters, who are at full strength, continue to play themselves into form and iron on those little mistakes that are preventing them from reaching their full potential.
