Melbourne NRL mauling still hurts Broncos

Brisbane’s Ben Hunt admits a Melbourne mauling at Suncorp Stadium in July is fresh in the Broncos’ memories.

The Storm thrashed the Broncos 48-6 in a round 17 clash with Fijian winger Suliasi Vunivalu picking up a hat-trick against an undermanned Brisbane outfit.

The sixth-placed Broncos head to Melbourne this Friday hoping to beat the ladder-leading Storm and stay in the race for a top-four finish.

Hunt says the heavy loss to the Storm was a blow but feels the Broncos have learnt from that experience.

“Memories were not too good from that game,” he said.

“They put a bit of a clinic on us that night. We were far from our best and they played an extremely good brand of football.

“It’s something we’ve tried to move on from, we’ve grown a lot since then and gone in the right direction. Hopefully we’re a lot better this time.”

Queensland State of Origin halfback Cooper Cronk was at his scheming best in the mauling, setting up five of the Storm’s eight tries.

Hunt says he eagerly anticipates any time he gets to pit himself against the Storm star.

“Every time I come up against him I really enjoy it,” he said.

“Hopefully I’ll get the leg up and get the win.”
