McQueen extends Souths contract

Representative back-rower Chris McQueen has extended his contract with South Sydney until the end of the 2016 NRL season.

The Queensland utility had been in discussion with Rabbitohs management for some time in seeking an upgrade from his contract worth around $170,000 a season despite his status as a State of Origin star.

On Thursday the club announced that McQueen had extended his deal at Redfern for two more seasons.

In a statement the 27-year-old, who has played 84 NRL games, said he was pleased to have his future sorted.

“I always wanted to remain at the club and hopefully we can achieve our goals and earn the success that we are working so hard for,” McQueen said.

Coach Michael Maguire welcomed McQueen’s retention.

“Chris has really grown as a player and a person over the last three years and has made a solid transition from an outside back to the forward pack,” he said.

“I see a massive up-side in Chris and his continual growth in the forwards.”
