Manly pull contract offer to Cherry-Evans

Manly have withdrawn their offer to halfback Daly Cherry-Evans after the premiership-winning playmaker failed to meet a deadline to sign a new NRL deal.

Manly chief executive Joe Kelly confirmed to AAP on Wednesday night the deal was pulled after the club became frustrated by Cherry-Evans’ refusal to reply to the offer.

“We’ve been talking about this for three-and-half months and we set him a deadline of midday on Monday and that has come and gone,” Kelly said.

“At the end of the day we offered Daly what we consider a very good deal, but the reality is that we have a big game on Friday and we just want to focus fully on that and this is overshadowing it.”

Five-eighth Kieran Foran is also yet to re-sign with the club but Kelly refused to say if that deal was still on the table.

“We just want to focus on the game and that is all we want to say about the matter for now.”

The Sea Eagles face Parramatta in the opening round of the NRL on Friday night.
