Jennings stars as Roosters down Titans

Michael Jennings showed he’s moved on from his recent arrest to spearhead the Sydney Roosters’ 20-10 win over the Gold Coast at Central Coast Stadium on Sunday.

Returning from a one-game club suspension, Jennings scored one himself and threw the last pass in another as the Roosters notched a less-than-inspiring win in front of 12,569 fans.

Jennings was ruled out of the team’s win over St George Illawarra last Monday night after being arrested during a run-in with police in Parramatta.

However he made a statement in his return, looking dangerous down the left edge.

Roosters prop Dylan Napa put his hand up for a Queensland State of Origin jumper with a strong display, running for 148 metres including a memorable break.

His front-row partner Jared Waerea-Hargreaves made an impact in his return from a calf injury, notching 115 metres and 14 tackles.

After leading 18-6 at halftime, the Roosters managed to close the game out despite some terrible handling in the second stanza.

They completed just 26 of their 43 sets for the match.

The Roosters were first on the board when Roger Tuivasa-Sheck created space for Shaun Kenny-Dowall for the winger’s 11th try of the season.

The Titans struck back when a James Maloney bat-on went awry and Anthony Don snatched it and ran 90 metres to reduce the deficit to two.

The Roosters took a healthy lead into halftime after Jennings struck 10 minutes before the break.

First he bustled through three retreating defenders to dot down and push his team’s lead out to eight.

Then on the stroke of halftime James Maloney busted open the line, threw it to Jennings, who turned it back inside for the Roosters five-eighth to score.

The Gold Coast got back within touching distance when Nene MacDonald grounded a Tuivasa-Sheck bobble inside his own in-goal, however they failed to take advantage of the Roosters’ poor performance in the second stanza.
