Jennings, SBW forming ominous partnership

It was like the first kiss in a beautiful romance, a moment Sydney Roosters fans have been dreaming about.

New recruits Sonny Bill Williams and Michael Jennings combining down the Roosters left edge, Williams delivering a trademark around the corner offload to a flying Jennings on his way to the tryline.

Jennings was cut done just short of the line, but having secured the win, it hardly seemed to matter.

This was just a glimpse of what could become one of the NRL’s most destructive combinations.

“I could get used to that any day,” Jennings said of running off Williams.

“He’s a quality player and if he does his job it makes my job easier.

“(Five-eighth) James Maloney, all he’s got to do is look for Sonny or myself and there’s going to be space there because with Sonny (it) takes a lot of players to take him down.”

It was always assumed ex-Panther Jennings and dual international Williams were going to be playing on opposite sides of the Roosters attack, with Williams more known for being a right edge player.

But the lure of pitting the pair together has proved too much of a temptation for rookie coach Trent Robinson, who also has impressive youngster Boyd Cordner to utilise as a right-edge backrower.

Jennings admitted the Roosters were heartened to break their duck against the Warriors, but said there was still plenty for the group to work on.

“It’s only round two. We’ve got a lot to improve on, all the players are just starting to get used to each others games,” Jennings said.
