Injury blow for Raiders prop Shillington

David Shillington’s uncertain future in Canberra has taken a new twist with the former representative prop facing two months on the sidelines after breaking his thumb in a NSW Cup match last weekend.

Shillington will undergo scans this week to determine if surgery is required after he sustained the injury playing for the Mounties in their 22-18 win against Wyong.

Shillington has been overlooked by Raiders coach Ricky Stuart for the opening two rounds of the season intensifying speculation the off-contract front-rower’s days at the club are numbered.

Stuart’s decision to snub the 31-year-old is a huge fall from grace for a player who just two years ago was regular member of the Queensland and Australian Test sides.

Hard-hitting forward Joel Edwards is also facing a spell on the sidelines due to a toe injury.

The former Newcastle back-rower is in a moon boot that will prevent him from returning to training between two to four weeks.

Winger Jordan Rapana will also be assessed this week after missing the Raiders’ round two defeat to the Warriors with a hamstring injury.
