Penrith utility Travis Burns is potentially facing 16 NRL matches on the sidelines and South Sydney’s Greg Inglis up to five following a mammoth meeting of the match review committee on Monday.

Burns has been slugged with a grade two dangerous contact charge after using a “chicken wing” hold on the arm of Sydney Roosters forward Mose Masoe and a grade three high tackle on Martin Kennedy in the Panthers’ 28-16 win on Sunday.

Burns could miss up to 12 weeks for the high shot on Kennedy and four weeks for the tackle on Masoe.

If the former Manly and North Queensland player takes the early plea to both charges he will be ruled out for a total of 12 matches.

Inglis has been hit with a grade four dangerous contact charge for his shoulder barge which left St George Illawarra’s Dean Young with severe concussion in South Sydney’s win over the Dragons on Saturday.

The Queensland and Australia representative will miss four games with an early plea, but could miss up to five matches if he fights the charge at the NRL judiciary on Wednesday and loses.

Inglis and Burns were among eight players charged along with Brisbane pair Ben Te’o and Josh Hoffman, Dragons trio Dan Hunt, Josh Miller and Trent Merrin plus Canberra’s Josh Papalii.

Te’o is facing a week out for a grade two careless high-tackle on Titans forward Luke Bailey.

Hoffman could miss two weeks also for a tackle on Bailey deemed grade two dangerous contact.

Hunt, Merrin and Miller have all been charged with grade one careless high tackles, but will be free to play at the weekend.

Papalii was charged with grade one dangerous contact with a kicker, but will be free to play if he takes the early guilty plea.
