Stand-in South Sydney captain Greg Inglis has dismissed claims from supercoach Wayne Bennett that the Rabbitohs will struggle to win this season’s NRL title with their predictable style of football.

Seven-times premiership winner Bennett made the claims after his Newcastle side were beaten 50-10 by Souths in Cairns on Sunday.

But Inglis says the Rabbitohs aren’t bothered by Bennett’s thoughts.

“He is entitled to his opinion. There’s no doubt about that,” Inglis said on Tuesday.

“There’s no secret, everyone studies each other.

“We just have to worry about ourselves and play our football.

“If we are predictable we just have to worry about what we do.

“Wayne Bennett is one of the masterminds of the game so you have to be careful about when he says it and where he says it.

“Everyone studies each other team in this competition. That is why it is so close this year.

“We just have to keep playing our style of football.”

The second-placed Rabbitohs host premiership frontrunners Manly in a top-of-the-table clash at the SCG on Friday that could decide the minor premiership.

With 32 points, the Sea Eagles sit two wins clear of Souths, who edge Penrith on for and against.

“Everyone is talking about the top-of-the-table clash … it’s a good test for us,” Inglis said.

“I think we’re stepping closer and closer to the brand of footy that were capable of playing.

“That’s been building over the last three weeks and it’s shown over the last two weeks. So we’ve just got to solely concentrate on us and really knuckle down at training.”

With regular skipper John Sutton still sidelined with a knee injury, Adam Reynolds and Luke Keary will continue their combination in the Souths halves, up against the NRL’s No.1 pair in Kieran Foran and Daly Cherry-Evans.
