In a decorated career in which he has achieved almost everything, superstar South Sydney fullback Greg Inglis is still chasing his first legitimate NRL premiership.

Queensland and Australian representative Inglis was a key figure in the Melbourne sides which claimed the NRL premiership in 2007 and 2009, before they were later stripped for salary cap breaches.

He has played in the Rabbitohs’ successive preliminary final losses in 2012 and 2013 and Inglis said those defeats have led him to view football this time of the year philosophically.

“You can never take these types of moments (finals matches) for granted because you never know when you are going to be back here,” he said ahead of Friday night’s first preliminary final against the Sydney Roosters at ANZ Stadium.

“We are assured of nothing from here on in, that is finals footy.

“So it has been a good journey up to now, we just have to go through our process and turn up and be ready to play.”

Melbourne won the 2007 and 2009 grand finals over Manly and Parramatta respectively before they were later taken back by the NRL in April 2010.

The Storm were found to have breached the salary cap by at least $1.7 million over five years.

However the 27-year-old Inglis said he still cherished the memories of those grand final victories.

“For me personally, you can take all that away but at the end of the day I still have the memories and that can take me back to those places,” he said.

“From now on I can only speak about my experience if I get asked about being down there and sharing those stories with the other boys of this team.”
