I want to finish NRL season at Manly: DCE

Gold Coast-bound playmaker Daly Cherry-Evans wants to play out his contract with Manly.

There are reports Sea Eagles management are keen to offload Cherry-Evans to the Titans this season after he pledged his future to the embattled Queensland club for four NRL seasons from 2016.

But in an interview with Fox Sports’ Sterlo on the Couch, due to air on Wednesday night, Cherry-Evans said he wants to finish the 2015 season at Brookvale.

“I play this game for obviously my family, I play it for myself and more importantly I play it for my teammates and my coach and unless any of those groups of individuals want me gone, I won’t be going anywhere,” he said.

“I’ll be making sure I honour my contract this season. As far as I’m concerned, and as far as I’ve been told, I have plenty of support from the coach and the playing roster, so I’ll be doing whatever I can to see out this year and make it a successful one.”

Cherry-Evans informed the Manly playing group of his decision to move north in the changerooms after their heavy round-one defeat to Parramatta on Friday.

He said his Sea Eagles teammates were generally supportive of the decision to take up the $4 million Titans deal.

“I can’t really remember who didn’t shake my hand because everyone was so overwhelmingly supportive of me and genuinely seemed happy for me that I had made my mind up,” Cherry-Evans said.
