I need to lift my form, says Maloney

Sydney Roosters playmaker James Maloney says continuing criticism of his inconsistent NRL form doesn’t worry him but knows he can silence it with a big end-of-season burst.

Maloney was a key figure in the Roosters charge to premiership success, including in his match-winning effort in the grand final win over Manly.

The former NSW pivot hasn’t yet replicated that form on a week-to-week basis but knows that with eight weeks until the finals now is the time to shine.

“I don’t think my form has been that bad, but you guys (the media) have been telling me it’s terrible,” he said.

“The stuff you get externally, it doesn’t bother me. I know myself when I’m a bit down and when I’ve not been doing as well as I can for the side.

“I don’t need people to tell me. It’s a big focus for myself personally this next eight weeks to be firing at the back end.”

After their round-17 capitulation to last-placed Cronulla the Roosters enjoyed a four-day camp in Avoca on the NSW Central Coast in a bid to help recapture their premiership form.

“When we had meetings the boys were pretty honest in their opinions. That’s what you need,” he said.

“It was great to take an honest look at where we are sitting and where we would like to be.

“A lot of the stuff that goes on is inhouse and I’m not going to say what it was.

“For me personally, I’m pretty happy we made a few corrections in certain areas.”
