I let the Dogs down, Reynolds

Josh Reynolds has apologised for second-half brain explosions against Brisbane, admitting he let Canterbury down.

Placed on report twice and then also sin-binned for a high tackle, Reynolds’ forgettable display in the 41-10 loss to the Broncos finished with him kicking a Suncorp Stadium dressing-room chair.

The abrasive NSW five-eighth told Bulldogs TV on Saturday he was disappointed in his actions.

“I might have the nickname ‘grub’ but I don’t go out there to do those things,” he said on the Canterbury website.

“If anything I felt like I let the boys down. It’s hard, if the fans feel like I let them down then so be it.

“I don’t go out there to do it on purpose. Sometimes the way I play passion comes out the wrong way. I don’t mean to do that. I go out there to play my game.”

Bulldogs coach Des Hasler put Reynolds off limits to the media on Friday night and also gagged his skipper, Michael Ennis, from speaking about the five-eighth.

Reynolds was lucky not to be sent off for a crude and deliberate trip on Ben Barba in the 70th minute while he’ll face just as much scrutiny from the match review committee for lashing out in the play-the-ball and kicking Sam Thaiday in the face in the 51st minute.

The first incident, resulting in a Brisbane penalty, was a major momentum-turner in the contest as the Dogs had bounced back to 20-10 down and were hot on attack.

He was given an early shower after a high tackle on Alex Glenn but it’s the first two incidents that causes most worry for Hasler.

A suspension for Reynolds is the last thing Canterbury need after four straight defeats with four matches running into the play-offs.

“I am sorry and I hope those two guys are OK and with the match review committee there is nothing I can do,” he said.

“I’ll get some advice from the club and go with that.

“It was one of those things. I was involved in three incidents. These things happen in rugby league.”
