Henry aiming for Titans talks next week

Gold Coast caretaker coach Neil Henry says he’s hoping to meet with the NRL club’s board next week to discuss his long-term future.

The 53-year-old took the helm in the first of a four-match interim role on Sunday against Manly, with the Titans narrowly falling to a 15-12 defeat.

Despite the result, Henry said his enthusiasm to take on the job full-time hadn’t dimmed.

He said he’s planning to sit down with the board in the coming days to work out what is happening with the position following foundation coach John Cartwright’s resignation.

“A loss doesn’t turn me off,” Henry said.

“The board are going through a process so, whether or not they interview coaches or shortlist, I’m not sure.

“We need to get our own backyard in order. We need to make sure we’re financially viable and moving forward.

“Hopefully I’m a part of that. I’d like the challenge. I think it’s a great nursery here for rugby league and we need to have a successful team here.”
