Hayne will star anywhere: Bird

NSW back-rower Greg Bird is confident superstar Jarryd Hayne can dominate State of Origin regardless of where’s he’s picked.

With Josh Morris ruled out of Origin II in Sydney with a knee injury, speculation is mounting Blues coach Laurie Daley is contemplating moving Hayne from fullback to fill the void.

That’s despite Hayne’s sensational man-of-the-match performance in NSW’s game one 12-8 victory.

Bird, who was watching last Wednesday’s game from the sideline due to suspension, says it’s up to Daley to decide where Hayne plays but he’s shown he can influence games from anywhere on the park.

Hayne played centre for Australia in last year’s World Cup, starring for the Kangaroos in the final against New Zealand.

“Everyone saw what he was capable of last year over in the World Cup in England,” Bird said.

“I’m not going to make a judgment on that (moving him) but I’d be confident of him anywhere on the field.”

Bird is expected to return for the Blues in game two despite this Saturday’s clash between Gold Coast and Penrith being his only chance to play before the squad is named.

He also believes Titans teammate Dave Taylor deserves a recall for Queensland following his stellar club form.

“I’d much prefer him to be playing here for the Titans,” Bird said.

“I hope he gets an opportunity. He has been playing really consistent football for the Titans this year. I think he deserves it.”
