Gold Coast Titans vs Canberra Raiders 2014 NRL Round 18 preview, tips and teams

The Titans broke a six game losing streak in the most unexpected fashion last Monday night when, minus their Origin trio of Bird, Myles and Taylor, they travelled to ANZ Stadium and defeated the Rabbitohs 14 – 10.

The Titans were behind within the first ten minutes but a try ten minutes either side of halftime, had them in contention and in an error-riddled match, they were able to seal the win with fullback Kevin Gordon scoring off a spilled bomb in the sixty-seventh minute.

It was a win and any win for the Titans at the moment will do but it was a dreadful game of football, with Souths Sydney inexplicably in poor form and unable to convert their chances.

The Titans now head home with a good chance to make it two wins in a row for the for the first time since round 5 and 6 however, the home-ground record is one of the worse in the competition at 2 – 6, having had lost their last four home games.

The Origin players have been named to back up from Wednesday night but Coach Cartwright is leaving his options open, having named a eight-man extended bench.

RAIDERS

The Raiders went within a point of registering only their second win from the past eight weeks when defeated by the Tigers 19 – 18 in round 16.

It was one of the better efforts from the Raiders who started a long price to cause an upset but it’s the ability to repeat that performance that has always been the Raiders Achilles heel.

The do head into this game though fresh from the bye and have named their strongest line-up.

The Tigers match was only the second time in the past ten matches that the Raiders have conceded last then twenty points in a game. If they can man-up in defence again, they may be some chance of registering a win here as the Titans have only surpassed twenty points once in their past seven matches.

HEAD TO HEAD

The Titans have won the last games against the Raiders and five of the last six played since 2011.

With the Origin players back in, being at home, and the chance to consolidate last week’s win with another here and keep in touch with the top half of the ladder, they should win this game – but it’s hard to tip them with any great deal of confidence.
